TOOTHPASTE

Toothpaste is a cream or gel used as an additive during tooth brushing. Already 2,500 years ago in Egypt there are records of use of salt, pepper pumice stone. And in modern form it appeared in 1896 when Colgate produced a paste inside the tube.

That includes: paste contains a number of ingredients such as fluoride since 1914, a material called SLS (sodium laureth sulfate), which causes foaming but in the oral tissue can cause more aphtha sores. It also contains white calcite powder (minerals such as potassium, sodium, calcium) that brighten the teeth. It also contains sodium carbonate, herbs, flavorings such as mint, strawberry etc., some pastes contain antibacterial substance called triclosan which is supposed to provide protection for 12 hours, may also contain zinc chloride. Certainly, we cannot know exactly what materials and what percentages since it is considered a trade secret and manufacturers only publish what is going to promote sales.

What toothpaste is recommended? In principle, what you want, to the extent that there is no specific recommendation, to use specific pastes for the specific problem you suffer. What is more tasty, cheap and convenient for you. Since the important point is not the toothpaste which removes plaque it is only a small help and gives a good feeling.

There is no need to use toothpaste at all because the mechanical action of tooth brushing and the use of dental floss, interdental brushes or oral irrigators will remove 100% of the bacterial plaque and this has already been scientifically proven. So, we recommend brushing without paste and only at the end add some paste because the large amount of foam confuses and it is misunderstood that the brushing action is finished and everything is already clean and that is a big mistake. Only mechanical action will remove plaque

The amount of paste: As I explained that there is no need to put toothpaste so if you want to put it at the end as recommended, and will not change anything if it gets a little at first, but the amount smaller than the size of one pea, more paste alone produces a budget hole and excellent profits for the manufacturer.

What kinds of toothpastes are? 1) children’s toohtpaste 2) common toohtpaste 3) toohtpaste for gums problems 4) toohtpaste with antiseptics 5) toohtpastefor sensitive teeth 6) toohtpaste for mouth dry 7) whitening toohtpaste

Toothpastes come with different flavors and drawings that attract the attention of children. Preferably let them choose themselves what they want and give them more desire to brush

Common toothpaste: this group is appropriate for the majority of the population choose what is best for you, it is recommended the ones containing Triclosan anti-bacterial material that should give 12 hours of protection, and has the drawing of a clock showing at 12 o’clock .Bleaching toothpastes cause damage to the dental tissue, which causes the appearance of hypersensitivity and are not recommended at all

Toohtpaste for gums problems: they contain several anti-inflammatory substances some good and others not so much, the most recommended is the one that contains natural herbs, it is a salty solution, it is known by the name PARODONTAX

Toothpaste with antiseptic material: these toothpastes containing antiseptics such as chlorhexidine are usually given when accompanied by a surgical treatment in the mouth (implant, gums surgery) normally used for a limited time, and not for daily use. (Corsodyl, laser)

Hypersensitivity paste: contains substances that  help re-seal the lack of sealing of exposed roots due to retraction of the gums, here are two manufacturers that distribute most of the market, and every few years improve the products and are those of Colgate and a Sensodyne.

Toohtpaste for mouth dry: just two companies manufacter a solution  for this problem and they produce a mouthwash too. (biotene, salivakl)

Whitening toohtpaste: this are not recommend at all they can’t bleach the enamal without demage it and produce an hypersensivity that will take long time to over
